It is not too late to register for the Allegheny Chapter’s annual BMW gathering at the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix. This year, the Chapter celebrates the elegance of BMW’s sports coupes with its “Sharks in the Park” program. Over 40 coupes are anticipated at the event.
Although Sharks may be circling the rivers of Pittsburgh, there is something for every BMW fan to enjoy during the Schenley Park weekend. The weekend gets underway on Friday, July 20 with a drive to Foxburg, PA. Foxburg is a developing tourist town along the scenic Allegheny River 70 miles northeast of Pittsburgh. After a lunch stop, participants will have the chance to enjoy a local winery, walk along the river, or tour an operating coal mine. On Friday evening, the Chapter will host a dessert reception in the host hotel from 8 to 10 p.m. Meet new friends and cool off with a treat from the ice cream bar, have a light snack, or enjoy a beverage supplied by Spaten.
On Saturday and Sunday, there will be over 2000 cars in an international car show plus a catered lunch and an all-day hospitality tent courtesy of BMW CCA’s Social Partner Spaten beer. All BMW’s are welcome in the car corral. Additionally, several 2002’s and a 1960 BMW 700 are entered in the vintage races.
During the lunch hour on Saturday, Jonathan Summerton, driver of the Team RLL #56 M3, will answer questions and offer insights into this year’s ALMS season. Of course BMW fans also line up at the fences to watch Mike Renner power slide the BMW Performance School’s M5 through Turn 13. If you want to see what the track looks like from inside the car, talk to the Chapter’s volunteers about securing a charity ride in the new M5!
