Jersey SIGFest 2012 Brings Out Dozens of Real M3s

Unless we’re actually out driving our BMWs, there’s nothing we car enthusiasts would rather be doing than standing around in a parking lot with our friends, shooting the breeze and hanging out together. This has become an annual affair in New Jersey for the SIGFest E30 M3 crowd; SIG equals Special Interest Group, and there’s nothing more special than an E30 M3!

 

True hardcore enthusiasts still call it “the real M3,” as it was built in order to homologate the model for racing, back in the days when M truly stood for Motorsport.

 

This year there were three dozen E30 M3s and their owners in attendance at SIGFest,  held on October 20 at the Spring Meadow Golf Club in Farmingdale, New Jersey. In a time when it’s becoming increasingly rare to see E30 M3s on the street, it’s pretty cool to see that many of them in one place! 

 

The great American hot-rodding spirit is also alive and well in the SIGFest crowd, as nearly every one of the M3s there had some modifications, from aftermarket wheels and seats to full S54-engine transplants.

Even as we move toward the fifth generation of the M3, it’s hard to deny the appeal of the original—and we’ll never go back to anything like it. That’s why it still generates passion for so many enthusiasts like those in the SIGFest group. Long live the E30 M3!
