The entry-level model in the redesigned 3 Series lineup is the new 2013 320i sedan, seen here at the Detroit Auto Show. Power comes from a new turbocharged two-liter four-cylinder with direct injection, good for 180 horsepower. Transmissions include a standard eight-speed automatic or an optional six-speed manual. BMW says that this model will do 0-60 mph in 7.1 seconds.
Standard features include Bluetooth smartphone integration, leatherette upholstery and 17-inch alloy wheels. Various 18-inch lightweight alloy wheel designs are optional, as is a Sport Package that features M-tuned steering and suspension, sport seats and a higher top speed. Certain available luxury features from the upper-level 328i and 335i models will trickle down to the 320i model — expect to see heated seats and steering wheel, backup camera, BMW Apps and in-car communication system, a moonroof, adaptive xenon headlamps and navigation.
On sale this spring, the rear-wheel-drive 320i starts at $33,445, making it the least expensive 3-Series model. The available 320i xDrive all-wheel drive model starts at $35,455. All prices include an $895 destination fee.––Paul Duchene
