The Savannah Speed Classic weekend at Hutchinson Island, Georgia, is quickly earning a reputation as one of the premier BMW CCA Club races on the East Coast. The race takes place every October on a little-known 1.965-mile, ten-turn circuit, just across the river from downtown Savannah. The festival and race course play host to HSR and BMW CCA Club Racing each year. Originally built to host Indy Car races, the track presents a challenging array of features that produces great racing for both drivers and spectators alike.

Here's what a few of our Club racers say about the event:

Robert Chang: The Hutchinson Island event was a pleasant surprise last year, and no doubt this year it will again be one of my favorite race weekends. The track, spectators, fellow racers, and downtown Savannah are all things that make racing at Hutchinson Island a treat. This is a spectator event, and the crowd will show their appreciation for a good race and good driving. You are guaranteed to make many new friends here! The track and its barriers may seem intimidating but really aren't providing you're sensible. It's a short fast lap that can be pushed with lots of opportunities to pass. BMW racers here always seem a notch above in this venue and it shows on the track with lap times, safety, and hard fast competitive driving amongst each other. As for my weekend it was a challenge to stay focused, remain as fast as I can, and outdo the one individual who could cause it all to fail—and that's the person behind the steering wheel.

Mike Akard: The annual HSR Savannah Speed Classic held on the Hutchinson Island Road Course near downtown Savannah, Georgia is an incredibly fun, multi-marque spectator event with an overall positive BMW CCA Club Racing experience like no other venue. The factory sponsored tents (much like BMW CCA O'fest) fill the area with all types of race cars—both very old and newer exotics with virtually anything one might imagine in between. The historic Savannah waterfront makes an incredibly beautiful backdrop for this very special event. Participants were greeted with perfect racing weather, and a concert by The Steppin' Stones band with food & beverages sponsored jointly by HSR & BMW CCA's South Atlantic RAC representative. This event truly pegs the "Fun Meter"!  It is certainly worthy of its ongoing status as a National Event and definitely should be added to any Club Racer's "must do" list.
