ROAL Motorsport wins the first privateer Team Competition

World Touring Car Championship racer Tom Coronel won the BMW Sports Trophy, awarded to the top privateer BMW racer in the world. Coronel drove a 320 TC in WTCC in 2013, scoring two wins and finishing tenth in drivers’ points. BMW awards €30,000 to the Sports Trophy winner. WTCC racers Stefano D’Aste and Mehdi Bennani finished second and third in Sports Trophy drivers’ points.

Coronel drove for Roberto Ravaglia’s ROAL Motorsport team; ROAL was awarded BMW’s first-ever Sports Trophy for team competition.

There were three Americans in the top ten; Turner Motorsport’s Paul Dalla Lana, who won the trophy in 2011, finished sixth, while Terry Borcheller and Mike LaMarra, who won the 2013 Continental Challenge Street Tuner championship in their Burton Racing 128i, were tied for eighth.—Brian S, Morgan
