For members in the Northeast, Bavarian Autosport is a familiar name as a retailer for BMW parts. The Portsmouth, New Hampshire company (located just an hour north of Boston, Massachusetts, where the BMW CCA itself has its roots) has just celebrated its 40th birthday, and with it comes its 16th Show & Shine event. While the event began as a customer appreciation day of sorts, it has grown into one of the most well-attended shows in the autumn calendar, featuring hundreds of cars from all over the East Coast. Not only does Show & Shine fill the lots on all sides of Bav Auto's (as the company is known) warehouse, but the exquisite BMWs owned by the hundreds of attendees also line the street outside in both directions.
Present at this year's show were all manner of incredible vehicles, ranging from the blue Z1 last seen at the Green Mountain Chapter's OktoberFAST show (and, earlier, at the 45th Annual BMW CCA Oktoberfest in Beaver Creek, Colorado) to a rat rod-style E30 coupe, to a bagged 525i Touring.
The car that drew perhaps the largest crowd in the main show area, however, was a thoroughly-modified, twin-turbo European E24 635CSi. This Connecticut car was stock until 2003, when its owner (who imported the car in 1986) began working toward the now nearly-complete build. The widebody 6 Series features extensive custom modifications beyond the powerplant, itself based on the turbocharged 3.5-liter engine from the E23-generation 745i.
