BMW of North America and the BMW i Owners SoCal group are presenting owners of electrified BMWs a chance to set a Guinness World Record.
There will be a parade of BMWs during the FIA Formula E Championship Round 6 weekend at Long Beach, California on April 2, 2016. In an effort to break a record for the largest parade of BMW vehicles, BMW NA and the BMW i SoCal Owners group are inviting owners of BMW i3, BMW i8, and BMW X5 40e electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids to assemble at the Long Beach track between 10 AM and 11 AM.
Cars will be checked for current registrations, drivers will be checked for a valid driver’s license, and then the cars will be organized for the parade along the two-mile Long Beach street course.
A representative from Guinness will be on hand to validate the record; that is, if more than 179 BMWs participate in the parade. The old record of 179 vehicles was set in 2008.
Participants must pre-register and may do so using an online form located on the BMWUSA.com web site at https://www.bmwevents.com/register.php?event_id=1599.
Being part of a Guinness World Record would be reason enough to join the BMW parade at Formula E, but if that’s not enough, each parade driver participant will receive two grandstand tickets to watch all the Formula E races and festivities. Formula E is the FIA’s racing series involving technologically advanced open-wheel, open cockpit race cars powered by electric motors. Think Formula 1, only quieter.
A world record and a free race weekend. That’s a good deal!—Scott Blazey
